Emily Faludy is a British painter whose practice is rooted in direct observation, working predominantly en plein airand from still life. Originally from Portsmouth, she studied Fine Art at the University of Wales, Aberystwyth, graduating with First Class Honours. The landscape of Wales and its strong tradition of landscape painting were formative influences, with the work of Kyffin Williams particularly significant during her early development.
Faludy has undertaken painting residencies in Wales, including CreateSpace Wales in 2022 and the Mawddach Residency in North Wales in 2024, allowing for sustained periods of working directly within the landscape. In 2021 she was shortlisted for the Jackson’s Painting Prize and was selected by Maggi Hambling as her winning artist at Paint Out Norfolk. She subsequently spent a year on the Turps Banana Correspondence Course in 2022–23, using the programme to question and extend her approach to painting.
In 2023 Faludy presented Seize the Day, a solo exhibition of plein-air work at The Lightbox, Woking. The following year she exhibited with Tregony Contemporary in The Painted Path, a two-person exhibition with Lawrie Quigley developed around journeys and painting along the South West Coast Path. Her work has been presented by the gallery in both Cornwall and London.
In 2024 Faludy won the inaugural The Windbreaks public art competition organised by Portsmouth City Council. Large-scale reproductions of her paintings were installed along the seafront of her home city, bringing the work into an architectural and public setting.
That year she also received an Arts Council England Develop Your Creative Practice grant to explore greater scale and extend the physical application of paint within her work. This period of research and experimentation continues to inform the direction of her practice. In 2026 she received further support through an Arts Council England National Lottery Project Grant.
Faludy now lives and works in West Cornwall. Grounded is her first solo exhibition with Tregony Contemporary and follows a period of concentrated painting since her move to the area
