Dot Wade is a British abstract painter, who was raised in Cornwall and studied at Falmouth School of Art, Dartington College of Art, and art history at Oxford Polytechnic. Quickly establishing herself as one of Cornwall’s most highly regarded abstract artists, Dot’s earliest influences come from Post-minimalist art, particularly evident in her pure, formalist aesthetic. The title of her first solo exhibition at Tregony Gallery 'Coming Home' is the connecting theme that runs through Dot’s work since returning to Cornwall after several years living and working in the Rocky Mountains of America. Dot declares her experience of ‘place’ through her own distinctive approach to painting, from structured compositions and a reductive palette to poetic sensibility and chosen motifs. She paints with a sense of the great St Ives modernists and yet discernibly moves their language into her own unique, more contemplative sphere.
